About Us

Tomkins Historical Research is situated within historic Bucks County, Pennsylvania, a short distance to the north of center city Philadelphia.

Michael Tomkins, President of Tomkins Historical Research, has been conducting historical studies for more than 15 years. Shortly after receiving a Bachelor of the Arts degree in Anthropology (major study archaeology) from the State University of New York, he settled in the Delaware Valley area. It was here that he honed his research skills while participating in an array of historical studies throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

Mr. Tomkins is experienced at conducting research for both urban and rural projects. He is familiar with the holdings of many local and state research repositories. In addition, he is experienced with utilizing federal research institutions such as the Library of Congress and the National Archives.

Michael Tomkins is registered with both the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission and the New Jersey State Historic Preservation Office as a professional historian as defined by the federal historic preservation professional qualification standards. He currently serves as the Treasurer of the Northampton Township Historical Society and is a member of the Northampton Township Historical Commission a Township advisory board appointed by the Township supervisors. He is also a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania and the Bucks County Historical Society, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
